Cross Stitch Design

Cross stitch is a medium that presents unique challenges and restrictions that I greatly enjoy working within. Fabric, weave density or type of thread and the stitch itself can be used to create varying effects that, when applied well, really enhance the overall finished work. I draft the designs using Adobe Illustrator, using templates I’ve specifically set up to work with different counts of fabric. The design is treated much like creating pixel art, each stitch is a square and consideration is given to colour blending and shaping curves. The finished designs are formatted within PDFs as instructions so that other stitchers can also create my work.

I’ve written further on this personal creative practice turned side hustle and how I came to it over on my blog.
